Root Fillings at Hilltop Dental Spa

A root filling (or endodontic treatment) is required when the tissue in the root canal has died, this can cause abscess, facial swelling and pain.

When the tooth dies it is called non vital. A non vital tooth cannot feel hot, cold or pain and that is why you usually do not need a local anaesthetic to have the procedure.

During the root filling the root canal is cleaned out, thoroughly dried and then filled to prevent further infection.

Finally a filling is placed on the surface of the tooth to seal the opening to the canal.

After the root canal therapy the tooth should be comfortable and function as a healthy tooth. When teeth become non-vital they often discolour. This discolouration can be corrected by bleaching, crowning or veneering.
